ICSP was formed in 1992 and was officially registered in October 1994. Since last ten years ICSP is at the forefront of sensitizing public, creating health awareness, providing training and conducting and supporting research on various aspects of public health importance.

ICSP has a strong network of health care professionals, opinion leaders and international experts. It has conducted and supported various activities targeted at prevention of diseases and control of infections with special reference to HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis

OBJECTIVES:

· To increase awareness and importance of microbiology and infection control for prevention of diseases.

· To promote scientific knowledge of health care through seminars, symposia, discussion, reports and publication.

· To stimulate scientific research and investigations related to infection control.

· To formulate recommendations for infection control in hospitals and community.

· To provide training, counseling and laboratory facilities in the relevant fields.

· To establish and support clinics, hospitals and libraries for furthering aims and objectives of the society.

 

PROJECTS AND RESEARCH:

  1. Evaluation of Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) Services in Pakistan (14 cities)   2004-2005, Funded by UNICEF Pakistan
  2. Canada-Pakistan HIV/AIDS Surveillance Project Mapping of vulnerable groups: Completed. Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance (in progress)
    • (A project funded by the Canadian International Development Agency- CIDA)
    • Pilot Study of HIV/AIDS Vulnerable Populations, Second Generation Surveillance (SGS) In progress: Field work completed.  Report being prepared
  3. Establishment of VCT Centre in public sector hospital in partnership with Marie Stopes Society. A project funded by GFATM (Global Fund to Fight against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria)
  4. Evaluation of blood bank practices in Karachi, Pakistan, and the government’s response. Published in Health Policy journal of UK
  5. Evaluation of trainings:  HIV/ AIDS/STIs & Sexual & Reproductive Health Services for VCT centers established through a grant from 2nd round of GFATM
  6. HIV/AIDS advocacy in collaboration with Positive Action Society, 2003

  10. Seroprevalence of Syphilis and HIV and Risk Factors among long distance truck drivers in Karachi, Pakistan
  11. Delivery of services for the prevention & spread of HIV infection & treatment and prevention of other sexually transmitted infections among jail inmates in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.
  12. HIV/AIDS Sero-epidemiology and Surveillance in Pakistan 1987-88 13) Cutaneous and visceral Leishmaniasis in Sindh, published in Pakistan Medical research journal Specialist
  13. Paper/poster presentation at International Conferences on Developing Strategies for Prevention of HIV Transmission from Mother to Child Transmission held in Vancouver, Canada and Washington DC, USA
  14. Poster presentation at second and fourth International Conference on anti-retroviral therapy in the management of HIV Infection held in UK, 1998 and 2000.
  15. Published several articles of public interest in all the leading newspapers of Pakistan
